Precautions for UV disinfection lamps
Traditional disinfection methods have been used for a long time, but are they really good enough and effective enough? However, the fact is that even the most stringent cleaning with hot water, disinfectants, and bleach can miss harmful germs and bacteria cannot completely destroy the ability of microorganisms to inactivate. Ultraviolet disinfection is a very effective method of disinfection, which is more effective than other traditional methods.
How does UV-C disinfection work?
UVC disinfection is a physical disinfection method. Although UVC light cannot directly kill microorganisms, it can destroy the ability of microorganisms to inactivate. Bacteria and viruses multiply through cell division based on genetic information, causing infections and diseases. DNA and RNA possess the genetic information necessary for this proliferation to occur UV-C irradiation will change the helical structure of DNA and RNA carried by viruses and bacteria, which can inactivate these bacteria and viruses and reduce their proliferation. Shenzhen Suntech Company Limited has two types of UV disinfection products, one is 254-278nm UVC LED strip, and the other is 222nm Far UVC excimer lamp. The biggest difference between them is that the wavelength band produced by the UVC lamp is harmful to the human body, while the 222nm wavelength band produced by the far UVC excimer lamp is harmless to the human body. If used properly, UV light is safe, but it is best to turn it on only when there is no one in the room.
5 Uses for UV Disinfection
(1)Air disinfection
How does UV light sterilize air? To some extent, any facility that needs to disinfect the air space can be disinfected with ultraviolet rays, which is much more effective than traditional air disinfection methods that are usually ineffective. The air needs to be in full contact with ultraviolet rays, which mainly involves natural convection to force air into the irradiation area of the ultraviolet disinfection equipment so that this kind of disinfection is more effective for static or stagnant air than for flowing air. In order to improve the effect of air disinfection, many people choose to install ultraviolet disinfection lamps on the upper floor of the room. In order to allow the air to circulate naturally, air will become cleaner and greatly reduce the hazards of airborne infections. We can also choose to install ultraviolet lamps near the cooling system coils in air conditioners and refrigeration equipment, which can prevent bacteria from growing under humid conditions and eventually being released into the air.
(2)Surface Disinfection
In our lives, contaminated surfaces are everywhere-medical institutions, transportation, homes, and almost any public place. Ultraviolet rays can destroy active viruses and other bacteria on the surface in just a few seconds. Especially in medical and health facilities, ultraviolet light is a commonly used disinfection method.
(3)Water Disinfection
Ultraviolet rays can also disinfect water, because UV disinfection is a physical process and does not require any chemical substances to be added to the water to clean it. It can be irradiated in water or outside water. When the internal water irradiation method is used, a quartz glass protective cover should be installed at the ultraviolet light source. No matter what method is used, the thickness of the water layer should be less than 2cm, and the water flow rate is determined by the intensity of the ultraviolet light source. Ultraviolet rays can reduce the reproduction rate of parasites, this method is very safe and effective.
(4)Food & Beverage Disinfection
Can you sterilize food with UV light? The answer is of course. The use of food and beverage disinfection combines the effectiveness of UV on surfaces and liquids. When disinfecting objects that are difficult to clean, UV disinfection has been proven to be effective in food manufacturing facilities and can be safely disinfected.
(5)Equipment Disinfection
In addition to stationary surfaces like countertops, tables, and floors, we can also disinfect some items, and disinfect the surfaces of small objects such as mobile phones, laptops, and wallets. For example, a laboratory at risk of contamination may use ultraviolet light to sterilize goggles, glassware, or other laboratory instruments, the UV light has the benefit of being effective but also dry and simple.
Main benefits of using UVC light
Environmentally-friendly
No chemicals
Affordable
Kills rapidly - starting within seconds
Microbial cells cannot develop resistance to this technology, and there is no survival at all
Proven to deploy it safely to kill bacteria, molds, fungi, and even viruses
Principles of UV Disinfection
A low-pressure mercury arc lamp similar to a fluorescent lamp produces ultraviolet light in the range of 254 pressure gauge (nm). A nanometer is one-billionth of a meter (10^-9 meters). These lamps contain elemental mercury and an inert gas such as argon in the ultraviolet transmission tube, usually quartz (unlike glass, which is transparent to ultraviolet light).
Traditionally, most mercury arc UV lamps have been the so-called "low pressure" type, because they have relatively low mercury partial pressure, low total vapor pressure (about 2 bar), and low external temperature (50- 100 °C), and low power consumption. These lamps emit nearly monochromatic ultraviolet radiation with a wavelength of 254 nm, which is the best range for nucleic acid to absorb ultraviolet energy (approximately 240-280 nm); ultraviolet rays destroy the bonds in nucleic acids and kill microorganisms.
Precautions for UV disinfection lamps
(1)During use, the surface of the UV lamp should be kept clean. Wipe it with alcohol gauze once a week on Monday and Thursday. If there is dust or oil on the surface of the lamp, it should be wiped at any time.
(2)When using ultraviolet rays to disinfect the surface of the article, the irradiated surface should be directly irradiated by ultraviolet rays, and a sufficient radiation dose should be achieved.
(3)The ultraviolet intensity meter is calibrated at least once a year. The life of the ultraviolet disinfection lamp is as long as 4000h.
(4)Don't let the ultraviolet light source irradiate people, so as not to cause damage.
