1 What’s UV black light?

UV black light refers to UV-A light that is invisible to the human eyes. As far as our eyes are concerned, light is black.

UV black light that emits only UV light can make a room noticeably completely dark. UV black light has wavelengths in the UVA range.

2 UV black light features

UV black light is phototactic and can be widely used in agriculture.

UV black light can also be used to identify the authenticity of banknotes.

UV black light also boosts skin melanin production and illuminates artwork.

UV black light can also be applied to medical diagnosis, fungal infections, bacterial infections, etc.

The main feature of black light is that it makes white and fluorescent objects glow in the dark.

3 What’s UV black light LED strip?

Black light LED strips are lamps that emit ultraviolet light.

The black light lamp is a special gas discharge lamp that emits ultraviolet light waves of 330-400nm, which is invisible to the human eye, so the lamp made of this ultraviolet light is called a black light lamp.

Black lamps are also known as UV lamps, UV-A lamps and Wood lamps.

4 Which ultraviolet blacklight lighting technology is best?

There are two types. UV black light can be used as fluorescent light and LED light.

The technology of UV LED black light is the best. UV LED black light has three main characteristics:

4.1 High efficiency

UV LED black light is 1.5 times to three times higher than fluorescent black light.

4.2 Does not contain harmful substances

UV LED does not contain mercury and other harmful substances, so you don't have to worry about whether it will harm your health when the UV LED black light is destroyed.

Since the fluorescent powder contains a large amount of Hg in the process of being charged into the fluorescent tube, the main source of its harm is the Hg vapor emitted by it. Chronic poisoning within a month; up to 1.2 to 8.5 mg, induce acute mercury poisoning, if the amount reaches 20 mg, it will directly lead to animal death.

4.3 Can be used for a longer time

UV LED lights can be used for 15,000 hours or more.

Fluorescent light and LED light are different in some ways. To get quick and better understanding of  fluorescent light and LED light, let s have a look on the following table.

5 Is UV and blacklight the same?

UV and blacklight are not the same, the same thing is that they are all ultraviolet light. The difference is that black light is a part of UV-A light. UV is divided into UVA, UVB and UVC according to the wavelength from long to short. Follow the picture below. UV is the wavelength between 100nm and 380nm. Black light is only a part of UVA.

6 How much UV do I need?

The unit of energy for ultraviolet light is watts. For an area of one hundred square inches, we need one watt of UV energy output. If the area used becomes larger, then we only need to accumulate this value. For example, with a power mark of 100 watts, we estimate that at 15% efficiency, then this uv LED can emit 15 watts of useful light energy for use in an area of 1500 square inches.

The output of ultraviolet ray is not marked in the product. We can calculate the output of ultraviolet ray through simple calculation. In order to better understand the area of the usable range of fluorescent light and UV LED black light. The following table shows us a clear calculation process.

From table 3 and table 4, we can find that the same UV light watts should be achieved. Fluorescence needs more electrical watts.

Above is a quick table based on 20% and 10% efficiency estimates for UV LED and fluorescent blacklight. These efficiency estimates are approximate because different brands will be different.

7 Which wavelengths of UV do I need?

We recommend using a wavelength of 365 nm because this wavelength is commonly used in fluorescence. Different wavelengths produce stronger or weaker effects. 365 nm is a peak, and the further away from this peak, the lower the effect. If it is used to decorate, 365 nm is the most obvious.

8 Which black light led strip is better, 365nm or 395nm?

For UV LEDs, the shorter the wavelength, the higher the manufacturing cost. Between 365nm and 395nm, if it is economical, we recommend choosing 395nm, but it has a disadvantage that the effect of fluorescence is weaker than that of 365nm. Looking at the picture below, we can see that the color is darker in the middle, and the color on both sides is lighter.

9 How do black lights work?

Ultraviolet light wavelengths are too short to be seen with the naked eye (or completely invisible), so fluorescent lamps must convert this energy into visible light.

To achieve this, a layer of phosphor powder can be coated on the outside of the tube. When light hits phosphorous, the substance glows (or fluoresces). The idea is that when a photon hits a phosphorous atom, one of the phosphorous electrons jumps to a higher energy level, causing the atom to oscillate and heat up, producing light. When this electron returns to its normal energy level, energy is released in the form of new photons. The energy of this photon is lower than the energy of the original photon, because some of the energy is lost as it heats up. Fluorescent lamps emit light in the visible spectrum - it is phosphors that emit white light that is visible to the naked eye.

principle

When atoms get enough energy, electrons are excited and reach the next electron shell.

The energy emitted when an electron returns to its original orbit takes the form of light, heat and molecular vibrations. Light of lower energy is light of longer wavelength, which is visible wavelength

10 What's the difference between UV light and black light?

They work differently, UV light is used to prevent bacteria from replicating DNA to reproduce. Black lamps work by passing electricity through a tube filled with an inert gas and a small amount of mercury to emit light. The main uses of black light are the inspection of antiques, forgery detection, mineral identification, and some bacteria.

11 What type of UV light fixtures should I use?

We recommend the flexible light bar, the light bar can be cut within an inch interval, if one is broken, it will not affect the use of the other. The second is that it is very flexible and can be installed in curved or uneven places. Rigid UV LED light strips are suitable for installation in the doorway of cabinets, which are relatively straight. The last point is that its voltage is very small, we can completely not worry about it causing fire and other dangers.

12 What can I do with a black light?

12.1 Trap insects and feed them to fish

Put the black light in the fish pond for 4-5 months, the trapped pests are equivalent to 20-30 tons of artificial feed protein. It is suitable for aquatic poultry farms and other farms. The trapped insects are used to feed fish and shrimp. Poultry can greatly reduce the expenditure of feed and save costs, because insects contain a lot of protein.

12.2 Checking banknotes and checking antiques

Law enforcement officers can use it to identify the authenticity of coins. The United States and many other countries use an invisible fluorescent strip on their large-denomination currency that is only visible under black light. Forensic scientists use it to analyze crime scenes.

12.3 Can be used in hospitals or medical institutions to detect specific bacteria

It can also diagnose fungal infections, bacterial infections, acne, melanoma, glycol poisoning; and is used to treat neonatal jaundice.

12.4 Can be used in daily life

We can use black sheet for artistic coating, and can also be used in multicolored lighting galleries, photography, birthdays, posters, room decoration, wedding and Christmas events, etc.

13 How do I install blacklight led strip?

Step1: Clean up the environment that needs to be installed.

Step2: Peel off the tape of the light strip, then attached the light strip to the surface of the object.

Step3: Connect the power supply.
