The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) brought together seven autumn fairs* into a single "physical + online" platform in 2021. The physical show ends today, attracting over 16,000 industry buyers to visit and do business in person, while the online trade show runs until November 6. To date, more than 3,000 sessions have been scheduled and nearly 12,000 buyers have viewed products and conducted business online.
With more than 1,700 exhibitors from 18 countries and regions, the mixed exhibition showcased a range of the latest technologies. This year's Policy Address outlines steps to build Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology hub, highlighting the huge potential of companies in the innovation and technology sector, said Mr. Chow Ming-kit, Vice President of HKTDC. The seven fairs run in a hybrid format, allowing global buyers and exhibitors to connect and make business matches online and offline, creating more business opportunities.
HKTDC conducted a field survey during the show. Of the more than 450 exhibitors and buyers interviewed, more than half (55%) expect overall sales to increase next year, while 30% expect sales to remain stable. In terms of market potential, respondents are most bullish on Taiwan (78 percent) and South Korea (63 percent) among traditional markets, and China (76 percent), India (72 percent) and Eastern Europe (72 percent) among emerging markets .
The COVID-19 pandemic affected exhibitors and buyers in different ways, including lower sales and revenues (64%), higher logistics costs (23%) and higher sourcing/production costs (19%). With just two months left until the New Year, 44 percent of respondents cited global economic volatility as the main challenge facing their business in 2022, followed by increased operating costs (32 percent) and changing political developments (29 percent) . When asked about opportunities, 37 percent of respondents expect business leads from e-tailing to have the greatest impact, followed by renewed customer buying power (36 percent) and growing demand from emerging markets (34 percent).
