In the process of finding the most suitable lighting for your home or business, you may have encountered this term many times. Or, when you went to an art exhibition recently, you might have been in contact with it unknowingly, and a piece of art was properly exposed.

Wall washing is of course not related to wall washing, but it is related to the effect of indirect lighting on the wall. We briefly explained what it means to wash walls and when to best apply this lighting technology.

Wall washing is a lighting technique in which vertical, indirect lighting is placed on the ceiling or floor and far away from the wall. In this way, the light can fall on the wall in an equal and uniform manner. This provides a "washing" effect of the wall so that shadows and defects disappear from the wall. The distance to be considered always depends on the shape and specific circumstances of the cleaning wall.

Kreon provides different contours that can be used to wash walls. For example, the contour of the kreon rei wall washer is placed about 900 mm away from the wall, and the kreon wall washer illuminates upwards and upwards. The distance will be determined by the wall. The specific type of downlight and the height to be illuminated. The same situation applies to kreon wall washer downlights, straight, down and tandem.

Another important aspect to consider when washing walls is that fixtures should be fixed to the ceiling or floor regularly. This distance determines the brightness of the surface.

However, don't confuse wall washing with grazing. The latter is a lighting technology in which indirect lighting is placed on the floor or ceiling, and the distance from the wall is small, so the details of the wall are eye-catching. For example, consider a wall made of stone or brick.

When using the wall washer, the focus is always on the bare wall. With this lighting technology, light will reflect vertically on the matte wall, which makes the room look bright and soft totally. In other words, washing walls can make narrow spaces (such as corridors) appear larger. By the way, this is the great advantage of indirect lighting: because you reflect light in certain parts of the environment, you can greatly expand the space. Therefore, for wall washing, it is not so much about the lighting itself, but rather about the impact of vertical lighting on the space and architecture of the building.

If carefully designed, illuminated walls may have a strong and clear effect on the room. Therefore, wall washing can also ensure that certain objects (such as paintings) are extra protruding on the empty walls, so they are eye-catching. In addition, it is often used in contemporary architecture to emphasize the size of the building. Therefore, wall washing can be performed both inside and outside the building.

In order to achieve the best effect of wall washing, the following points should be noted:

1. Provide white or light matte color on the wall to achieve the best light reflection. Dark surfaces reflect much less light.

2. Pay attention to the distance between the fixture and the wall. Lighting placed too close to the wall is more likely to have a predatory effect on the wall. This means that the focus will be on the details of the wall, rather than the wall as a large space surface.

3. When you want to apply this technique, consider the intensity of the lamp and the less matte walls. The walls are too bright and too smooth will cause glare.

4. The correct lighting technology naturally depends on what effect you want to achieve. If you want to expand the space of your home or office, wall washing can be an ideal solution.
